January 17, 2012

Coaches,

You and your students are invited to the annual Bronco Classic at Blackfoot High School on February 17 and 18.  This tournament has been designed to help students and coaches prepare for district debate and speech competition. All Idaho State Speech events will be offered. Students will be allowed to double enter in one "A" event and one "B" event so that they may prepare for district competition. Your squad may have six entries in each event. Time limits and rules will be governed by the Idaho Speech Regulations. Trophies will be awarded to first, second and third place speakers in each event.

Open competition will be offered in Policy, Lincoln-Douglas debate, and Public Forum. Your squad may enter up to 6 entries in each.  We will also offer novice policy, public forum and L-D debate.  In debate, trophies will be awarded for quarterfinalists, semifinalists, 2nd and 1st place winners. Outstanding speakers will be recognized. The Idaho Debate Code will be strictly enforced--Do not bring judges that will encourage students to break this code.

Student Congress will run during debate rounds. You may have 10 students in Student Congress. Legislation will be from the NFL 2011 Preliminary OMEGA Legislation package.  The legislation can be downloaded by clicking on the following link:

http://www.nflonline.org/uploads/NationalTournament/NFL_National_Legislation_Docket_2011-rev.pdf

All students must have their own copy of the docket.  The tournament will not provide copies of the legislation.

In addition to legislation in the OMEGA 2011  package, students may write legislation and bring it to the tournament.  Students must provide 35 copies of legislation.  Coaches should submit a single copy of any student legislation upon registration for tournament approval.

Encourage and train your non-competing varsity debaters to serve as judges for novice debate. Only adults may judge individual events. Register one judge for every five speech or 10 Congress entries. One judge is required for every four L-D or public forum teams and for every two policy teams. Tournament judges will be $100.00 and they will be far and few between. If there are not enough judges, schools without sufficient judges will be required to drop entries at the discretion of the tournament director.  I am not kidding.

Tournament entry will close Wednesday, February 15th at  5:30 p.m. After this time drops will be charged a $25.00 drop fee in each event. You may contact me with questions at:
