GREAT MIDWESTERN NOVICE & JV DEBATE CHAMPIONSHIPS IOWA CITY WEST HIGH SCHOOL As the end of the debate and speech season approaches, there are numerous opportunities for varsity debaters to continue debating. It is our hope that we can provide one more valuable opportunity for novice and JV/second year debaters this year. A novice is defined as a student in their first year of debate competition; a JV debater is a student in their second year of competition. The tab room will be staffed by Michael Greenstein of Glenbrook North (IL), Ernie Rose of University School (FL), Harry Strong of Des Moines Roosevelt (IA) and Pete Clancy of Cedar Rapids Washington (IA). The tournament will be held at West High on March 30 - April 1, 2012. We hope to provide challenging competition for the best novice and JV Policy, Lincoln-Douglas, Legislative, and Public Forum debaters in the nation. This year’s schedule includes six rounds of debate, breaking to octofinals in each division. You may bring your varsity debaters along to help fill your judging committment, (Juniors and seniors only please.) When registering, please note if the judges you are providing are students. Beautiful, customized awards will be presented in each division, along with awards for the top speakers in Policy, Public Forum and LD. Last year there were schools from 12 states in attendance. We believe that based on inquiries about the tournament, this year promises to have one of the largest and most diverse fields yet in the history of the Great Midwestern Championships.
