2010 Des Moines Roosevelt High School Tournament
Dates: 1/22/2010 - 1/23/2010

Des Moines Roosevelt High School and our Forensics program welcome you to our annual tournament.  Our event is a great opportunity for a "tune-up" before the Iowa National Qualifiers on February 13-14!  We are hoping that you will choose to come to Des Moines the weekend of January 22-23 and participate in our Winter Invitational.  Close to twenty schools attended last year from all over the State.  Both in state and out of state schools are welcome to attend!

We will be offering the full range of individual events as well as most debate events.  There will be both novice policy and Varsity policy.  Please review the schedule for entry information.  LD and Policy are Friday-Saturday events to maximize rounds for the students.  Individual events will be on Friday evening.  Congress and Public Forum will be on Saturday only.  We are hoping to have enough Novice Congress students for a separate house.  There will be awards for Novice Congress, even if those students are mixed into Varsity houses.  Please have legislation in for us by January 19.

Our Varsity Congress once again will feature a scenario. If a student is selected for Super Session, there is no preparation to be done for the scenario.  The scenario will unfold to them in communication from various leaders of the Government requesting Congress take certain actions to respond to the crisis. Knowledge of the possible implications regarding actions of President-elect Obama and the breach of security that could result because of his initial choices for his cabinet and policy recommendations for Climate Change and dealing with Rogue Organizations would be helpful. Also, it might be helpful to know the agenda of the more famous past and present political associations would be beneficial for scenario preparation.

Please register as soon as possible to help us with our planning.  If you need student housing, we have a limited number of beds available with our students.  Please let us know your requirements as soon as possible.  This is offered on a first come/first serve basis. In addition to our debate tournament that weekend, athletics have a number of events scheduled for their facilities on the East side of our building.  Parking should not be a major problem as we have plenty of parking on the North and South sides of the building generally unused by athletics.

In the meantime, please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have on my cell phone at 515-202-4078.  Or you may email me at
