Getting Started with Joy of Tournaments (Website Registration Users)

The following notes will help you have a successful experience with the Joy of Tournaments tabulation software. The following steps will help you navigate through the most important steps as you begin working with the software.

Download and install the most recent version of the software
Obtain an authorization key for the software
Complete the initial setup options
Download entries from the website

Step 1: Download and install the most recent version of the software.

The first step will be to download and install the most recent version of the softare. If you perform this step more than a week in advance of your tournament, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you repeat this step to update your software during the week of your competition. If there are issues that have been reported at other tournaments, they may be addressed in the most recent version. If you are using an older version, you may run into a problem that has already been fixed.

Click here for instructions for downloading and installing the software.

NOTE: there is more than one step to this process, so it is important that you follow the instructions all the way thru to the end.

Step 2: Obtain an authorization key for the software.

The next step will be to enter an "authorization key". The presence of an authorization key will convert the "trial" version of the software (installed in step #1) into a full version of the software. Without an authorization key, the software will not allow you access several options in the software including the option to print and the option to download entries from the website.

When you open up the software, you will likely be presented with the "Registration" dialog automatically. If not, you can find the "Registration" dialog via "Help" and then "Registration" from the menu inside the tab software. The "Registration" dialog looks similar to the following:

If your computer is connected to the internet, you should be able to click the button labeled Generate Key to obtain the authorization key automatically. If that option does not work or your computer is not connected to the internet, you may click here to manually obtain an authorization key

Click on the Generate Key button on the registration dialog. You may enter EITHER your serial number and password -OR- your email address an password. EITHER combination will work, but you must use one or the other. When you have entered one of the two pairs of information, click on the Get Key button to obtain your authorization key.

This process will not work on all computers, so if it fails, check to make sure you are typing in the correct information (check spelling, check upper and lower case, etc.). If it does fail on your computer, then you will need to use the link above to manually obtain the authorization key.

Step 3: Complete initial setup options.

The next step is to complete the "initial setup" of the software. The steps listed here are the very most important steps you will perform. Please read and follow the instructions listed here carefully.

Step 4: Download entries from the website.

If you are using the website for registration, you may import the information from the website at this point. If you are doing this setup work in advance of your tournament, you may repeat the import process again closer to your actual tournament, but the website import will give you a head start on some of the following steps.

The download process is actually pretty simple if your computer is connected to the internet and there isn't a firewall that prevents you from getting directly to the website. Select the option labeled "Import Website Entries" from the "File" menu. Provide your email address and password that you use to login on the joyoftournaments.com website. As you proceed thru the "Event Mapping" and "School Mapping" steps, make sure that there are no "Unmapped Events" or "Unmapped Schools". As long as those boxes are blank, you may click on "Next" each time it appears in the import wizard.

Step 5: Set up the schedule for your events.

Step 6: Enter the list of rooms which are available for use at the tournament.

Step 7: Assign rooms to events.
