Dear Members of the Speech and Debate Community:
The Sequoyah Speech and Debate Team would like to extend an invitation to the fourth annual Autumn Argument. There will be Novice, JV, and Varsity policy debate, Lincoln-Douglas debate, Public Forum, and individual events including: Original Oratory, Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Prose/Poetry, Impromptu Speaking, and Extemporaneous Speaking
There will be four rounds of debate and three rounds of individual events (IE’s will have finals during round four). Policy Debate will be standard 8/3/5 with 8 minutes of preparation time in each round. It is assumed that novice debaters will be debating on their FIRST resolution. One elimination round will follow the preliminary rounds with the top four teams advancing in each division (as determined by record and speakers points). This elimination will be power matched among those four teams.
Lincoln-Douglas debaters will use the November/December topic. Public Forum will use the November topic Resolved: Direct popular vote should replace electoral vote in presidential elections. Please consult
www.nflonline.org for topic releases. DI, HI, OO, and DUO speakers will have a total of ten minutes each round to speak. Impromptu speakers will have 7 minutes altogether – that is up to 2 minutes preparation time and 5 minutes speaking time. Extemp speakers will have thirty minutes of preparation. Prose/Poetry can be 5 to 10 minutes (30 second grace period either way). IE’s may double enter in other IE’s but
not in PF, LD, or Policy.
Breakfast items will be available for purchase in the cafeteria from 7:00am – 9:00am. Lunch will be provided after round two. Students should bring money to purchase lunch items. As per the norm, a hospitality room will be established for coaches and judges.
Pre-Registration deadline is Wednesday, November 2nd at 5:00 P.M. All changes must be final by Thursday, November 3rd at 12:00 noon. Any changes made after this time will incur a $30 late charge. Registration will take place on Joy of Tournaments. The registration website is
