First Annual Autumn-by-the-Lake Invitational Tournament
Saturday, November 1, 2008

Dear Colleagues:

Many coaches and students have joined us for the Winter-by-the-Lake Tournament over the past seven years. . . so many, in fact, that it was becoming increasingly more difficult to host all of them comfortably.  Thus, this year, we decided that it was time to split up our events and host two different tournaments so that there would be ample room for all events and students.  (We know that cold, unheated hallways make for rather unpleasant debate rounds.)

Therefore, the LCHS Forensics Team cordially invites you to travel to our corner of the world near Lake Thurmond for our First Annual Lincoln County High School Autumn-by-the-Lake Invitational.  This GHSA-sanctioned tournament will feature four rounds of Lincoln-Douglas and public forum debate (not policy!), student congress as a full-day event, and IEs competition as entries permit. There is no limit on the number of teams/contestants that a school may enter in each division, and contestants may double-enter in IEs only.  (Note: we will be offering three divisions of policy debate at the Eighth Annual Winter-by-the-Lake Tournament, this year’s Georgia CFL policy debate qualifier, on January 10, 2009.)

For those who are familiar with our usual tournament schedule, please note the later Saturday morning registration and round 1 start times.  Our hope is to make it more feasible for schools to be able to drive to Lincolnton on Saturday morning rather than having to pay for a hotel stay on Friday night.

The deadline for pre-registration is Thursday, October 30, 2008.  Any changes (including changes in participants’ or judges’ names, number of teams participating, etc.) must be completed by Friday, October 31, at 3:00 P. M.; schools that make changes after this will be subject to a $50 fee. Teams who drop after Friday will still be billed for registration. In the event of an emergency situation (unexpected illness or inability to arrive by the close of registration), please call Mrs. Robinson on Saturday morning at (706) 401-6232 or, if busy, (706) 401-6236.

We will serve a variety of lunch and snack items at the concession stand.  Time will not permit students to leave campus for lunch; in order to make the lunch break run as efficiently as possible, we ask that students pre-order and pre-pay for their lunches after their schools register.  Claude Robinson will also provide coaches and judges his usual (and somewhat famous!) spread of wonderful food in the hospitality room.

If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Robinson at lchsdb8coach@aol.com or call her at Lincoln County High School at (706) 359-3121.  We look forward to seeing you on November 1!

Sincerely,

Lee Robinson                                                                                                      Amanda Scott
