IMPORTANT EMAIL UPDATE

Colleagues –

I hope that your school year is off to a great start!  As the Cougar Classic at Chattahoochee approaches, there are a few important updates that I wanted to bring to your attention.

While we have and always will strive to host a tournament with excellent competition and hospitality, there are a few logistical factors that will drastically affect this year’s tournament in particular.

1.) On Friday September 30, please do not arrive to the campus before 4:00PM.  When you arrive, competitors and judges will be directed to congregate in our auditorium while coaches will be directed towards registration.  There will be a tournament opening assembly at 4:45PM where pairings for policy debate rounds one and two will be released.

2.) On Friday, Chattahoochee will also be hosting a home football game against our close neighbor Johns Creek.  Unfortunately, this will be our largest home football game of the year.  This should not affect your arrival.  However, if you leave the school mid-tournament and hope to return – it will be a nightmare.  We will do our best to meet all of your needs without having you leave the campus.

3.) On Saturday October 1, please do not arrive to the campus before 8:00AM.  Saturday morning, Chattahoochee will be also be hosting SAT testing for seven hundred students.  These students will be in their rooms with the doors closed testing by 8:00AM.  It is imperative that you do not arrive before that time.  When you arrive, all tournament participants will be directed to the auditorium where pairings will be released at 8:10AM.

4.) Due to the SAT conflict, all IE events, Lincoln-Douglas debate, and Public Forum debate will take place at TAYLOR ROAD MIDDLE SCHOOL (right next to Chattahoochee).  I apologize for the inconvenience and while this is not ideal, it was unavoidable.  All three divisions of policy debate will remain at CHATTAHOOCHEE.  If you have specific concerns about your students competing in separate buildings, please contact me ASAP.

5.) Parking.  Please review the “parking map” and “parking permit” (both are available on the “invitation” page of our JOT website.  All vehicles (buses, vans, cars, etc.) will be directed to park in the bus circle towards the front of our campus.  We will use the small, adjacent faculty parking lot for overflow if necessary.  Both lots will be reserved for debate tournament parking only.  All vehicles will need to present the “parking permit” to our parking attendants and display the permit on the dashboard at all times throughout the weekend.  There is also parking in front of Taylor Road.  Keep in mind that it is an extremely short walk between the middle school and the high school.

6.) Due to the conflicts with the SAT and football game, our schedule had to be slightly revised.  Please review the new schedule below.

7.) We have changed the fee structure for our tournament.  All IE entries are now $15 per entry.  Lincoln-Douglas entries are $20, Public Forum $40, and Policy Debate $50.

8.) We are making arrangements to provide high quality meals at both Chattahoochee and Taylor Road.  Both locations will offer meals to students (for sale) and meals to judges/coaches (lounge) at both the middle school and the high school.  Our two lounges will be limited to tournament attendees that have graduated from high school.

We are looking forward to hosting a great tournament and I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience these changes may cause.  Please contact me with any questions, concerns, or comments.  Thanks and we hope to see you soon!

INVITATION
The 2011 Cougar Classic at Chattahoochee High School

Colleagues,

The Hooch Debate Team is excited to invite you and your students to attend the annual Cougar Classic Speech & Debate Tournament to be held at Chattahoochee High School on Friday September 30th and Saturday October 1st, 2011.  We strive to offer quality competition in the following events: two-person varsity, junior-varsity, and novice policy debate, Lincoln-Douglas debate, public forum debate, extemporaneous speaking, impromptu, dramatic interpretation, humorous interpretation, duo interpretation, and original oratory.

There are many options for comfortable accommodations in the Johns Creek & Alpharetta area. We have included contact information for many local options that are easily accessible from GA400 at either exit nine or exit ten.

The Hooch Debate team and parent booster club are working hard to ensure a quality tournament experience.  Our coaches lounge and concession stand will include a variety of healthy and vegetarian options.

A few important things to note:

1. We request that you follow the Georgia Forensic Coaches Association resolution stating that, "a novice debater should be a student who is debating his or her first national high school resolution at high school tournaments."

2. Novice teams will be expected to abide by GFCA rules concerning Novice arguments and evidence.

3. Lincoln-Douglas, public forum, and all individual events will once again be Saturday only.

4. This year you must specifically request hired judges.  We will fill as many hire requests as possible, but it is likely that we will not be able to meet demand.  Please plan on providing as many judges as you can to fulfill your team's commitment.  If you request judges close to the tournament date, we many not be able to provide them.

5.  If your Georgia school is in its first year of competition, we offer half-off registration fees.

We hope to see you in September,
