When: Friday & Saturday, Janruary 26 & 27 2018

Fri: 3:45pm - 9:30pm, Sat: 8:00am - 6:00pm

 

 Where:  SCHURR HIGH SCHOOL

  

IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS TOURNAMENT - SCHOOLS MUST:

1. REGISTER ON THE WEBSITE BY 5PM FRIDAY, JAN 12

2. BE MEMBERS OF THE SCDL

3. HAVE PAID THEIR '17-'18 CHSSA DUES (BY Entry Deadline: Jan 12)

4. HAVE PAID ANY OUTSTANDING  SCDL FEES (BY Jan 12)

5. BE ABLE TO PROVIDE ONE JUDGE FOR EACH PAIR OF DEBATERS/TEAMS OR EVERY 6 CONGRESS STUDENTS.
  *** Be sure to enter judges on the judge page; see instructions on "judges" link

Entries for Schools not meeting these criteria will not be honored

Note:  Schools will get four entries at State Quals for each varsity entry which competes at Spring Debate or Spring Varsity                                                

Example....2 Varsity debate entries at Spring Debate will allow a school to enter 8 entries (in any event) at State Quals

*****All Varsity events have "legs" for State 

Divisions: There are two divisions of competition: Novice and Varsity

 

 

           MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH JUDGES BEFORE YOU SEND IN YOUR ENTRY

                       Varsity students may judge in the novice division at this tournament

 

Regular adult judges are needed for the varsity division.

COACH REQUIREMENT: 

IF You, the coach of record, are NOT going to be attending the tournament, you must send either an employee representing your school and have them check in your team at the beginning of the tournament.

IF You, the coach of record, are sending a volunteer and/or parent to care for your team.  You MUST have a letter from your school, signed by your principal indicating the person you are sending is the official "chaperone" of your team for the day.  The letter must be turned in to the tournament director prior to the beginning of the tournament.   Failure to do so may result in your student not being allowed to compete

WHOMEVER you put in charge of your team should have the student emergency medical forms / permission slips / parent contact forms for your team.  Protect your students, yourself and your "representative"

        CONGRESS:                 1 for 6 or portion thereof          

        LD DEBATE:                1 for 2   or portion thereof        

       TEAM DEBATE:          1 for 2   or portion thereof        

        PUBLIC FORUM:         1 for 2  or portion thereof 
       PARLI DEBATE:         1 for 2  or portion thereof

  

VARSITY JUDGES:   

              CONGRESS:                  1 for 6 or portion thereof          

  LD DEBATE:                 1 for 2   or portion thereof        

 TEAM DEBATE:            1 for 2   or portion thereof        

             PUBLIC FORUM:          1 for 2  or portion thereof             

              PARLI:                           1 for 2  or portion thereof            

 

PLEASE NOTE: Judges MUST be checked in by 3:30pm on Friday and 7:45am on Saturday or students will be dropped from round 1.  

Novice Students are those in their first year of high school competition.

JV Students are those in their 2nd year of high school competition AND who have NOT QUALIFIED for the State or National Championships in ANY event.

 

Each coach may select an MVP or top student participating at each novice tournament. That student would be recognized at the award ceremony, with a medal, by each individual coach. The medal will say SCDL MVP. It is the coach’s discretion whether or not to give the award.
