IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS TOURNAMENT - SCHOOLS MUST:

1. REGISTER BY 5PM ON FRIDAY, JAN 20, 2012
2. BE MEMBERS OF THE SCDL
3. HAVE PAID THEIR '10-'11 CHSSA DUES (BY ENTRY DEADLINE, jan 20)
4. HAVE PAID ANY PAST DUE "SPRING '11" FEES (BY Jan 20)
5. BE ABLE TO PROVIDE ONE JUDGE FOR EACH PAIR OF DEBATERS/TEAMS OR EVERY 6 CONGRESS STUDENTS.

Divisions: There are two divisions of competition: Novice and JV

 

 

           MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH JUDGES BEFORE YOU SEND IN YOUR ENTRY

                       Varsity students may judge in the novice division at this tournament

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Regular adult judges are needed for the varsity division

COACH REQUIREMENT: 

IF You, the coach of record, are NOT going to be attending the tournament, you must send either an employee representing your school and have them check in your team at the beginning of the tournament.

IF You, the coach of record, are sending a volunteer and/or parent to care for your team.  You MUST have a letter from your school, signed by your principal indicating the person you are sending is the official "chaperone" of your team for the day.  The letter must be turned in to the tournament director prior to the beginning of the tournament.   Failure to do so may result in your student not being allowed to compete

WHOMEVER you put in charge of your team should have the student emergency medical forms / permission slips / parent contact forms for your team.  Protect your students, yourself and your "representative"

NOVICE JUDGES: (can be varsity students)         

        CONGRESS:                 1 for 6 or portion thereof          

        LD DEBATE:                1 for 2   or portion thereof        

       TEAM DEBATE:          1 for 2   or portion thereof        

        PUBLIC FORUM:         1 for 2  or portion thereof 
       PARLI DEBATE:         1 for 2  or portion thereof

  

VARSITY JUDGES:   

              CONGRESS:                  1 for 6 or portion thereof          

  LD DEBATE:                 1 for 2   or portion thereof        

 TEAM DEBATE:            1 for 2   or portion thereof        

             PUBLIC FORUM:          1 for 2  or portion thereof             

              PARLI:                           1 for 2  or portion thereof            

 

PLEASE NOTE: Judges MUST be checked in by 3:15pm on Friday and 8:15am on Saturday or students will be dropped from round 1.

 

FEES:        $2 per novice entry          ($4 for team debate/pufo/parli)        

     $5 per varsity entry          ($10 for team debate/pufo/parli)

                       NOVICE PARLI Topics will be posted ON THIS WEBSITE around 72 hours before the start of the tournament.  Thus, NOVICE Parli will NOT have any prep time at the tournament.           

                        VARSITY Parli Topics will be posted 30 minutes prior to the beginning of
                           each round

Novice Students are those in their first or 2nd semesters of speech competition AND 

have NOT QUALIFIED for the State or National Championships in ANY event.

JV Students are those in their 3rd or 4th semester of speech competition who have NOT QUALIFIED for the State or National Championships in ANY event.

 

Each coach may select an MVP or top student participating at each novice tournament. That student would be recognized at the award ceremony, with a medal, by each individual coach. The medal will say SCDL MVP. It is the coach’s discretion whether or not to give the award.
