2012 3rd Annual Robert Garcia Invitational
Saint Francis High School
September 22-23, 2012

Dear Colleague,

Saint Francis High School invites you to participate in the third annual Robert Garcia Invitational to be held Saturday, September 22nd through Sunday, September 23rd, 2012. It is our hope that we can assist you in getting your students excited and involved in forensics while opening up the Fall 2012 forensics season with a success.

The schedule for the tournament includes six preliminary rounds of debate and three preliminary rounds of congressional debate, with a break to octofinals in all debate events, unless entries facilitate larger/smaller breaks. California High School Speech Association rules will be used as a guideline, but discretion is at the hands of the tournament director.

We will offer varsity debate in all formats, with a novice division in Policy and Lincoln-Douglas debate. Please take note of the entry limits on the pages that follow. Competitors who reach octofinals in debate  will receive awards. The sweepstakes awards will be awarded to the top three schools. Speaker awards will be given to the top five competitors in Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, and Policy Debate.

You will find the tournament schedule on the website.  The deadline for entries is Thursday, September 13th, 2012 before 4pm Pacific Standard Time.  You will not be refunded your entry fee for any drops after this date.  Due to the nature of this tournament, there will be ABSOLUTELY no adds at registration.  We do not accept email entries.

Please enter your squad on Joy of Tournaments as soon as possible (and when available). We take entries on a first-come, first-served basis and the tournament will likely fill up before the official deadline. While we will make every effort to accept all entrants, it may be necessary to limit entry in some popular events. We will take as many entries, up to 40 per event, with all other additional students being placed on a waitlist.

Schools are required to bring qualified judges. One judge will cover one of the following: two debate teams, three Lincoln-Douglas/Public Forum debaters, or five entries in individual events. Schools are required to provide one judge for every two debate teams in elimination rounds up to one round past that school's dropping from competition. Please call if you have any questions about your judging obligations. Schools will pay a penalty for uncovered judges: $125 per uncovered judge in all events. Schools will also be fined $50 per round for missed ballots. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE bring your own qualified critics. While there will be some available for hire, we would much rather have your critics than your money. The tournament committee will resolve any disputes that arise during the tournament.

Registration will be at the Library of Saint Francis High School, Saturday, September 22nd from 7:00 to 8:00am. Turn in your fees at registration OR mail them to Saint Francis High School, 1885 Miramonte Ave, Mountain View, CA, 94040. We would really, really prefer to have you mail in your fees, but if you can't mail them by the 13th of September, please just bring them with you.

We hope to make the Robert Garcia Invitational a successful and exciting tournament. With your help, it will be done. We are looking forward to seeing you.

Sincerely,
