2017 Memorial Day Invitational @ Narbonne
Dates: 5/27/2017

Dear Speech and Debate Coaches & Competitors:

The Narbonne High School Forensics Team cordially invites you to come and participate in a tournament designed to motivate you and your team for the coming year of competition. Our Memorial Day IE Invitational will take place on Saturday, May 27 at Narbonne High School (24300 Western Avenue, Harbor City, 90710). We hope that this will encourage your team to get a running start on the 2017-2018 year of competition as well as give you a way to introduce Speech & Debate to prospective new team members. For that reason, we are including some “fun” spontaneous events as well as traditional scripted events. We are encouraging competitors to dress in business casual dress in order to create a more relaxed informal competition.

Our tournament will offer all scripted CHSSA speech events (scripts will be allowed without penalty), as well as a “Pop Culture” extemp event (Round 1 - celebs, Round 2 - movies & television, Round 3 - music), a “Grab Bag” impromptu, and “Character” SPAR (students will be assigned a “character” they will have to imitate as they SPAR). Students will be allowed double-entries in both patterns. The cost is just $10 per entry, with a $25 school fee. The schedule for all events will include two preliminary rounds, a semi-final round and a final round. We will award finalists in all events.

Schools will need to provide one judge for every six entires in the bigger speech pattern. Current seniors on your team may serve as judges. If you cannot provide judges, you will be allowed to buy out judges at $10 per entry. We would, of course, prefer the you bring judges rather than buy out; however, the option is yours. Failure of judges to show the day of the tournament may result in pulling the competitors of the schools who have not covered their judge slots from semis and finals. Competitors may also be pulled from their events if judges mysteriously disappear during the tournament.

Registration will occur outside of the Auditorium between 7:30 and 8:00 AM on Saturday. It is very important that your judges arrive by 7:30 AM so that they are present for judging instructions. Lunch and afternoon snacks will be provided for judges.

We are looking forward to a fun, relaxing tournament and a new tradition beginning. Hope you will come and join in on the fun!

Many thanks,

Sharon James
