PLEASE NOTE NEW JUDGING REQUIREMENTS -- ONE JUDGE FOR EVERY 15 HOUSE ENTRIES PLUS ONE JUDGE FOR EVERY 5 SENATE ENTRIES.
Hope all is going well for everyone. Below you will find the invitation for the third Congress tournament of the year with entry instructions. ENTRIES MUST BE MADE ON JOY OF TOURNAMENTS.
Place and Date: The tournament will take place at San Marin HS in Novato, 1/21.
Legislation: House will debate all 5 bills/resolutions in the order they appear. If the house finishes all 5 bills they may reopen them. Senate will debate 3 of the 5 decided by school vote. Legislation is posted at www.joyoftournaments.com.
Coaching requirement: In order to make this tournament work we will need ALL COACHES TO HELP SCORE AND CLOSE A HOUSE. All chambers will close at 2:45 pm sharp. Schools with over 20 entries combined should have two coaches scoring. Please specify coach(es) to be used on your congress entry—and if you have no entry let me know if you can score!
Judging requirements: One judge for 15 House entries and one judge for every 5 Senate entries. (So this means that if you enter one student in House and one student in Senate, you need to provide two judges.) Judges will be pre-paneled. Extra judges or judges not entered in advance will be placed in a “reserve pool.” Judge names must accompany entry. If your judge has a different last name than their child please note that in your judge entry notes.
Presiding officer requirements: Each school must provide one presiding officer for each 10 students—submit names of all PO’s in entry. There will be a mandatory meeting for PO’s at 8:30 am. Presiding officers for the senate will be chosen based on both experience and an effort to balance schools.
Legislation Requirement: Please bring bills/resolutions to be considered for State Quals.
Entry Deadlines: Please submit your entries on Joy of Tournaments by Friday, January 13th. All drops/changes must be made by Wednesday, January 18th.
Registration and fees: Coaches and judges must sign in no later than 8:30 am. Entry fees are $13 per student; checks should be made out to GGSA and given to the Treasurer the morning of the tournament.
Food: The tournament will provide complimentary lunch and snacks for coaches and judges and for the students at a reasonable cost.
House or Senate? Remember that students who qualified to the Senate in the past will remain in the Senate this year. All other students should be entered in the house. Students who qualified to the Senate as a speaker may not remain in the House as a presiding officer.
Entry Instructions: ALL ENTRIES MUST BE MADE ON JOY OF TOURNAMENTS.
