Monticello High School and the University of Arkansas at Monticello are please to invite you and your students to the 8th annual R. David Ray Invitational Forensics Tournament to be held in Monticello, Arkansas on September 22-23, 2017. We hope that you will join us.
We will NOT have a karaoke competition this year. INSTEAD, we are offering two “new” events: Solo Musical and Duet Musical. I will get copies of the ballots we will be using ASAP. Basically, they will be modeled after our current IEs, Words and Music, and the Thespian events of the same name. Students will be responsible for their own accompaniment. They are welcome to perform a cappella, with live accompaniment, or with recorded accompaniment (boombox, phone/iPod/Speaker). These will not be qualifiers for ATOC, but we will be awarding trophies for the top six finalists. We are super pumped about this new endeavor!!
Group Events will be offered for workshop not trophies. Since we have had very few entries in these events, we welcome you to bring your group events at any stage of rehearsal for feedback and critiques. I am going to try and assemble a panel of adult and student surveyors so that you will receive feedback from the student population as well as coaches/adults.
Our next change is that entry fees will be payable to MHS instead of UAM. Please make checks out as follows:
MHS Forensics #237
You can bring the check with you or mail it to the following address:

· Multiple Slates are welcome. We will be using squad efficiency for Sweepstakes.
· We will offer novice and varsity debate in CX. We are also offering IPDA, LD, and PF.
· If a student breaks to out rounds in debate and he/she is entered in IEs on Saturday, he/she may compete in both, but rounds will not be held. He/She may wish to choose one or the other.
· Students can only be entered in 4 individual events max.
o 2 entries per pattern; there are no triple entries in preliminary rounds.
All coaches are asked to stay until the final round is covered with sufficient judges. Tournament directors often need every qualified coach during the final rounds. Your students will enjoy watching the Curtain Call of some of the best performances of the day. We encourage you to stay to celebrate the performances.
Individual Events: 1 judge for every 20 entries or fraction thereof
Debate: 1 judge for every 2 debaters or fraction thereof
***Because of the size of IPDA in the past two year, we are limiting each school to 10 entries IF that school supplies enough judges. If you don’t supply enough judges, you may be contacted to limit your entry further.
There will be a $10 judge’s fee for every judging position that is uncovered.
Entry Deadline is Monday September 18, 2016 by 3:00 PM.
We will be using Joy of Tournaments for registration this year.
Rules and Regulations:
Visit www.actaa.net for tournament ballots and event rules outlined by the ACTAA TOC.
