2012 Mountain Brook High School Betty Gunn Invitational

Dates: Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3-4, 2012

Welcome,

We hope all who find our page here at the JoyOfTournaments website will be able to join us at the 2012 Mountain Brook High School Betty Gunn Invitational.  We are pleased to announce that this year our Final Round of Public Forum Debate will again be a qualifier to the Tournament of Champions in Lexington, Kentucky for April of 2012.  We have open debate divisions in Lincoln-Douglas and Public Forum. We will offer six rounds of preliminary competition in Public forum and five rounds in LD. We will host a round-robin for 1st/2nd year Policy Debaters. And, this year we will also offer Congressional Debate after preliminary rounds have finished. This will mean that some students in elimination rounds may miss time in Congress.  The chamber will be open but you must pre-register for Congress at the event not online - legislation packets will be given out fifteen minutes prior to the Chamber opening.

We will also offer individual event competition in Original Oratory, Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, and Duo Interpretation. Just remember that anyone entered Individual Events may not also enter in debate other than Congress and vice versa for debaters.

Our tournament offers a travelling trophy to our over-all sweepstakes champion team and awards trophies to the top competitors of all divisions.

Mountain Brook High School is easily located just off I-459 3 miles east of the 280 intersection in Northeastern Birmingham which makes travel time from the airport just about 15 minutes and the tournament hotel will offer a free shuttle service to and from the airport for those who call ahead.  We also recommend Hertz for those who wish to secure a vehicle since they have a kick-back rate for the NFL. For those familiar with the school campus and tournament, the back entrance may still be under construction and we suggest planning to enter through the front of the school.  Directions are available on the webpage.

If there is anything I can do to assist you in your planning of attendance please email me at robertsj@mtnbrook.k12.al.us

To assist us in planning for our judging and food needs, we will close registration on Jan. 23 and all late entries will only be accepted as room allows.

Sincerely,

Jeff Roberts
