South High School
Forensic Tournament Invitation
It's that time of year again! We are pleased to kick off the forensics season. We can't wait to see all of your competitors -- new and old -- and start the season on the right foot.
Registration
Tournament Dates: Oct. 21-22, 2011 (Friday & Saturday)
Entry Deadline: Oct. 14, 2011 - 11:59pm (Fri) if you register online. Otherwise, entries are due on Wednesday, Oct. 12th at 5:00pm.
As always, we will use the ASAA DDF rules. For information regarding the rules of a particular event, see the DDF Hadbook, at the following URL:
http://asaa.org/sportsactivities/DDF/pdf/2011-12DDFHandbook.pdf
Events
We will offer the standard events hosted at the Alaska State DDF Championship tournament. See the schedule for the full event listing and patterns.
We will once again hold Student Congress, as well. This event will take place during Pattern A. Any competitor may take part in Student Congress. If you wish to submit legislation, please send it to me by e-mail NLT October 3rd. They do not have to attend all sessions; however, the chances of winning an award greatly increase if they do. If your squad thinks someone might like to participate, let me know. I will provide you with the legislation packet. We plan to keep this event fairly informal.
Entry Limits
Student Limits: Each student may enter up to 4 events. In the debate pattern (Policy, LD, PF), a student may only enter 1 event. A student may enter up two three events in Pattern A/B, but may only enter two events in the same pattern. (In other words, she may enter two events in Pattern A and one in Pattern B. Alternatively, she may enter one event in Pattern A and two in Pattern B.) Furthermore, a student may not double enter in extemporaneous speaking.
School Limits: None, with the exception of Extemporaneous Commentary. Each school is limited to 4 entries in XComm. Additional entries will be waitlisted. We will open additional slots based on the availability of judges in our judging pool.
Novice Entries
We will, once again, recognize the top Novice in each event. If the judging pool will supoprt it, we may also have Novice elimination rounds... although a novice would advance in the main break if he/she has earned that spot. If you have novices entered in the tournament, please send me their names in a separate e-mail so that I can recognize them for their efforts.
Judges & Fees
None.
As was established a few years ago, Alaska schools must provide one judge for every 5 students entered in the tournament. Coaches may count toward this judging obligation. (This policy may be in flux... please contact me in a separate e-mail if you have questions.)
Lodging
We are pleased to welcome the Spring Hill Suites University Lake & Courtyard Marriott as sponsors of our squad, this season. In support of our program, they have offered out-of-area teams in need of lodging a special rate of $89/night plus 12% tax (unless you have the appropriate tax exemption documentation). (My in-laws spet the weekend at the University Lake location a couple of years ago, and I can vouch for excellent views and rooms.) If you would like to take advantage of their generous support, shoot me an e-mail and I will give you the number/e-mail of the individual serving as my point of contact on this. I can't wait to get this season started, and truly look forward to seeing you at our tournament!
Welcome & Best of Luck!
